Hamilton County Commission chairman Todd Portune is again calling for the Bengals to sell naming rights to Paul Brown Stadium. Whether the county would reap any benefits depends on how much the rights could be sold for. The Bengals contend it would be less than $3 million a year, but one independent expert puts the number at $5 million a year.

Free agent wide receiver Doug Gabriel looks very impressive in workouts and has a good shot at the final roster, says The Chickster.

More t-shirt slogans for Marvin.

Fifth-round pick Jason Shirley will miss all of next week’s practices while he’s in court in California. Kirkendall susses out possible punishments.

Like me, Chris Maier over at The Bengals Blitz finds quantity, but little proven quality at LB in the wake of Odell Thurman’s release.

Thanks for the kind words -- but don't worry, I'm sure I'll say something supremely dumb before long!

I'm not a huge fan of "Corporation X" stadiums, and as the story notes, since naming revenues are shared, the Bengals would only get 1/32nd of any money, so I can understand the Bengals' reluctance. That said, if as the story reports there are 17 teams without naming rights sold, and each of them could bring in $3-5 million a year, now we are talking about every team getting an extra couple of million a year. In the end, naming rights might need to be "nationalized" somehow by the league, sold centrally like national TV. I dunno, just thinking out loud...

David, I'm glad you brought up the subject of selling the naming rights to PBS.  Regardless whether it is 3 Mill or 5 Mill it is something!!!  You know what?  Something just hit me!  Could it be that Mike just wants to leave Dad's name on the Stadium??  Certainly I can understand that, however, when you are in a small market you have to make the Jack where you can.  Indy certainly didn't have any problem with naming there NEW football haven "Lucas Oil" Stadium.

For me since I am located down here in Sunny Myrtle Beach I think they should name it "White Castle Stadium" or "Skyline 3 Way & A Coney Stadium" or "Grippos Stadium".  Alright, I guess I'll have to make a phone call to the 812 or 513 or 606 to get me a care package sent to me since I am Hungry for some Back Home Grub!!!!

Okay, one more topic - Jason Shirley
I suppose the Bengals should wait until the last possible minute to sign this guy. Officially he is only a draft pick at this point.  However, would you, be surprised if Godell doesn't do something?  But, then again.....how could he until he is inked.
.............and a Word for Dave 2.0 >> You are doing an Excellent job.  Good research, frequent posts.  I'm a fan of the way you think.
