Will Marvin Lewis soon go the way of Lane Kiffin and Scott Linehan? An anonymously sourced report on the intertubes claims Lewis could be canned this week.
Sources have informed Pro Football Central that the Cincinnati Bengals are nearing toward a decision that could result in head coach Marvin Lewis being fired by the end of the week. The source also states that owner Mike Brown is also deciding upon whether to name assistant head coach Paul Alexander or defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer as the interim head coach.
The Chickster believes that Lewis has been “Bengalized” and relays this bon mot from [...]

Bengals Ink Benson
Former Bears running back Cedric Benson joins the circus that is the Cincinnati Bengals’ 2008 season.
Speculation continues to swirl around Carson Palmer’s elbow injury. However, Palmer insists that he will play this weekend.
The Chickster’s sources tell him that WR Chris Henry will be back on the field against Dallas. He points to TE/FB Dan Coats as the guy most likely to be cut to make room for Henry on the roster.
Doc argues that missteps in the offseason are responsible for the Bengals’ poor season.
Chad Johnson should have been traded to Washington.
The way the Bengals handled the “signing” of Sean Rogers was amateurish.
Why did they tag Stacy Andrews?
Jerome Simpson?
The Ravens used Willie Anderson near the goal line [...]
The Dearly Departed, Week 4
Our weekly look at how notable Bengals free agent losses and cuts are faring.
During free agency ‘08, the Bengals lost three players — Landon Johnson, Madieu Williams and Justin Smith — and in their final cuts released fan favorites Rudi Johnson and Willie Anderson, as well as Deltha O’Neal and Ahmad Brooks. So, how did this years’ crop of ex-Bengals fare in week 4?
Williams, now a Viking, is still out with a neck injury. However, he has finally returned to practice.
Look for Big Willie tonight against the Steelers.
Landon had no stats in Carolina’s victory over Atlanta. He has 3 tackles [...]
The first quarter of the season is over for the Cincinnati Bengals, and the picture isn’t pretty. Obviously, I was wildly optimistic in my prediction of a 10-6 year. At this point, the team will be lucky to finish 6-10.
What’s gone wrong? In a word, the offense. My preseason prognostication was based on the idea that an offense finally 100% healthy for the first time since 2005 could be expected to return to playoff form. Not only has that not happened, but the Bengals offense has in fact morphed into one of the most ineffectual squads in the NFL.
In 2005, [...]
Bengals/Browns Postmortem
As I warned last week, the season is over. Today’s loss, putting the Bengals at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the division, is just the icing on the turd. That said, I saw some things I like today.
For one thing, the defense continues to progress. Half the points Cleveland scored were handed to them by the offense, which twice coughed up the ball deep in Bengals territory. Chinedum Ndukwe, Leon Hall and Keith Rivers all had good days, as did Fear the Fanene. Robert Geathers put in a so-far-this-year-rare appearance. Raven-cum-Browns RB Jamal Lewis, who routinely kills the Bengals, never [...]
Bengals/Browns Open Thread
As we come up on game time, here’s the injury/inactive news for the week.
Carson Palmer will not play (elbow) unless injuries force them down to their emergency QB.
Kenny Watson (hamstring) and Johnathan Joseph (ankle) are out, as are Dexter Jackson (thumb) and Indiana Jones (hamstring).
Rookies Andre Caldwell, Pat Sims and Jason Shirley are inactive.
All the pounding QB Carson Palmer has endured over the last several weeks has apparently taken its toll. Palmer will not play against the Browns today due to an elbow injury. No. 2 Ryan Fitzpatrick will go in his place, with little brother Jordan Palmer backing Fitz up.
Game 4 – 2008 Bengals Season

How will the Bengals Offense Look?
Quarterback:
Palmer seemed to wake-up and rekindle his passing relationship with WR Houshmandzadeh, going 27 of 39 for 286 yards with 1 TD, his first of the season. 12 of his completions were to TJ which accounted for just over half the total yards (146 yards). Palmer was under pressure from the Giants rush but seemed to be more in sync with his targets and was more adept in moving out of the pocket to buy time. With Cleveland’s pass rush still searching for [...]
What’s even more pathetic than an 0-3 team? Trash talk by a blogger for an 0-3 team. I hate to be the one to clue Chris in on this, but his team sucks like a black hole. And yes, so does mine — but at least they were supposed to, right? The Clowns, on the other hand, were supposed to be good. They were supposed to make the playoffs after going all Dan Snyder in the offseason, making it rain in free agency and trading away all their top draft picks for “name” veteran players.
Heckuva job, Brownies.
Moving on, in today’s [...]
