Bengals Promote Pope

In a move that suggests the Bengals will be without their best corner, Johnathan Joseph (ankle), against New York, the team has bumped practice squad CB Geoffrey Pope onto the active roster. To make room, they released former Detroit guard Frank Davis.

Pope spent all of last year on the Giants’ practice squad, but was signed to the active roster in the postseason and had two solo tackles, one against Dallas and one against Green Bay, during the Giants’ Super Bowl run. Pope is perhaps better known for an incident in which he was accused of hitting a man over the head with a champagne bottle. The charge was subsequently proven to be a case of mistaken identity.

The Bengals also signed LB Abdul Hodge and T Dennis Roland to the practice squad, and released LB Dan Howell.
