I can’t find much more to add to my comments yesterday about the overtime loss in the Meadowlands. I believe it will haunt this team for a long time. I hope I’m wrong, but the Bengals have shown little mental toughness in the past few years, and this was exactly the kind of loss that leads to players throwing in the towel for the season. It shouldn’t take long to see if that’s happening again: next week brings the Battle For The Basement in the AFC North. If they get pwned by the Craptastic Clowns — whose loss to Baltimore yesterday actually lifted the Bengals into 3rd place in the division — I think we can safely change the name of this blog to “Leaf Raking Hype” for the rest of the season.
The Enquirer’s Mark Curnutte gives the Bengals one of the dreaded “moral victories” for their close loss against New York, but I agree with The Chickster: there are no moral victories in the NFL. On this point, I also find myself in rare agreement with T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Doc walks the ledge between “moral victory” and the reality of 0-3. In the end, he brings it back around to the upcoming Cleveland game. We’ll see, but I’m predicting right now they lay an egg.
If there is a silver lining to the loss, it’s that word is starting to spread that LT Levi Jones sucks elephant balls. Get him out of there before Carson Palmer gets killed.
