Thursday Reads: If the Shoe Fitz, Wear It

Posted by: david

While official word on Carson Palmer is “week-to-week,” it’s looking more and more like fans won’t see him again until 2009. This leaves Harvard’s own Ryan Fitzpatrick large and in charge for the rest of the season. The opportunity couldn’t come at a better time for Fitz, since he will be a free agent next March. If he can pull even a few wins out of the disaster zone that is the Bengals’ offense, he should generate some demand for himself.

The Bengals’ quest for their first W got a boost yesterday when Pitt’s practice field ate Willie Parker. Unfortunately, dings and dents continue to plague the Bengals as well.

One of the few things that, so far, have not hurt the Bengals this year is Chad Johnson. Notes Doc:

Props to Chad-O for how he’s handled himself this year. The team stinks, he’s not been very good, but his head has stayed on straight. Coaches told me in August they were seeing a New Chad. I was skeptical. Up to now, I was wrong. The O-Man seems to have learned from his errant offseason. Good for him. Now, fire Rosenhaus.

Seconded. Still, Muckraker Mike argues that he and fellow wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh ought to have been moved before the trade deadline — a view I’ve also seconded. With the 2008 season circling the drain, it’s time to look to the future. To that point, head coach Marvin Lewis said fans may finally see wide receivers Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell, taken in the second and third rounds, respectively, last April, Sunday against the Steelers.
