Baptism of Fire Coming for Anthony Collins?

An ominous situation is developing on the left side of the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive line.

With a short week in front of them — they face division rival Pittsburgh Thursday night — both LT Levi Jones and LG Andrew Whitworth, who took over at LT today and in early 2007 when Jones was slow to recover from knee surgery, are limping. The early book on Whitworth is a high ankle sprain, which would almost certainly knock him out for Thursday, and probably longer. Jones appears to be having knee problems yet again, though his return to today’s game after Whitworth was injured suggests he could go in at least an emergency capacity against the Steelers.

The injuries put 2008 fourth-round pick Anthony Collins on the hot seat. Collins has gotten a few snaps this season, primarily as an extra blocker in the short-yardage “jumbo” package. But the Kansas standout could find himself in the thick of the fight in just a few days.

If both Jones and Whitworth can’t go, expect to see backup G/T Scott Kooistra as well.
