What’s Chad Johnson’s Trade Value Now?
Muckraker Mike agrees with me about The Ocho.
If the best offer for Ocho Cinco is a quatro, I don’t see Mike Brown pulling the trigger. He’ll demand a deal at least as good as the one offered last April by Washington, and Florio rightly points out that a) there didn’t appear to be anyone else that interested then and b) DC has no incentive to revive the deal. Redskins WRs Santana Moss is on pace for his first 1,000-plus yard receiving year since 2005 and the second-best year of his career overall.
All the measurables are against a high-priced deal as well. Chad will be coming off his worst season since his rookie year. He turns 31 in January. And the wear and tear of an eight-year NFL career is beginning to show. Last season it was his ankle, which needed surgery earlier this year. This season, it’s his shoulder.
Chad’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, will undoubtedly be able to knit together a deal somewhere, but at best I’d expect Chad to bring the same kind of second-round compensation Corey Dillon commanded in 2004.
