In news guaranteed to cause legions of Bengals fans to repeatedly slam their head into the nearest wall, CBS’s Charley Casserly says that Cincinnati plans to bring Ocho Cinco back next season.
If the Bengals keep Johnson and let unrestricted free agent T.J. Houshmandzadeh walk, a torch-and-pitchfork-wielding mob will descend on Paul Brown Stadium. If they keep both, likely through the use of the franchise tag in T.J.’s case, then the re-signing of Chris Henry and the use of second- and third-round picks last April on WRs Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell make even less sense than they already do.
Hopefully Casserly’s sources are in error. But knowing the Bengals, they’re probably dead on.
