All-Pro defensive lineman Coy Bacon passed away this morning, according to his local newspaper, The Ironton Tribune.
He was 66.
Bacon played for the Rams, Chargers, Bengals and Redskins, as well as USFL’s Washington Federals. He is credited with 130 sacks during a 14-year career, including a 26-sack season in 1976 with the Bengals. The would-be record-setting tally came before the league began officially tracking sacks.
Bengals owner and president Mike Brown released a statement this afternoon:
Tags: Bengals, Cincinnati, NFLCoy was a tremendous player for the Bengals, the greatest pass rusher our team has ever had. After he left the team, he worked hard to make life better for youths in the Ironton area. What he did was admirable, something all of us respect. We are saddened by his passing.
