As the Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff gets the North team in gear for the Senior Bowl later this week, they’re keeping a close eye on on some local prospects like University of Cincinnati center Eric Wood and his teammate, Jack-of-all-trades Connor Barwin. Wood is certainly an option for the center-needy Bengals in April, while Barwin is an intriguing prospect but may be too much of a role-player for the team to consider unless he slips a few rounds (though Walter continues to like him in the second for Cincinnati). Full rosters for both squads can be had here.
Word from the first day of practice was that USC linebacker Rey Maualuga, a possible target for the Bengals with the No. 6 pick, was rusty, hesitant and out of shape. Highly-regarded center prospect Max Unger got the better of top defensive tackle B.J. Raji, and North OT Phil Loadholt stood out in drills. The Bengal Blitz previews the game and players to watch, while PFW profiles Unger.

Speculation around former Bengals wide receivers coach Hue Jackson’s future continues to swirl. Jackson could end up as offensive co-ordinator of the Jets, stay with Baltimore, or take over offensive playcalling duties in Cincinnati. But for now, the last possibility is nothing more than rumor (albeit one Marvin Lewis declined to knock down yesterday) and has to be considered unlikely.
