Senior Bowl Day 4 Notes: Barwin Impresses Bengals

Local product Connor Barwin is making a case for himself on both sides of the ball.

Former Bengals and current Jaguars LB coach Mark Duffner issues a timely warning against reading too much into a few practices. (And a tip o’ the hat to bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson for the plug. Always appreciated.)

Big C gushes over the job done by the Bengals coaching staff at the Senior Bowl. Matt McGuire echoes this sentiment and adds that, by contrast, the Jacksonville coaches don’t appear to care very much about the game.

Both Marvin Lewis and Jack Del Rio are pleased with their respective squads.

Bengals DB coach Kevin Coyle is high on Oregon corner Keenan Lewis, saying “he’s got good size and can run with wide receivers, and those are things you can’t teach.”

Sam Houston State QB Rhett Bomar impressed Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese with his arm strength, toughness, running ability and smarts.

Bengals line coach Paul Alexander has a man-crush on Wisconsin guard Kraig Urbik.

DT B.J. Raji’s strength is his good first step, according to Bengals DL coach Jay Hayes.

Cal Poly WR Ramses Barden took a knock to the noggin and sat out the North practice yesterday.

I’d love to have him, but the Bengals would probably have to use their second-round pick to get him, and that means waiting until the third to address the center position. I’m not convinced we can afford that.
