Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson says he will participate in the team’s voluntary offseason program. Ocho Cinco told bengals.com that he will be there “whenever they want us there.” Johnson also reiterated his claim that fellow wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh wants to return, and that he wants him back.
All this ought to be music to Bengals fans’ ears after last offseason, which featured Ocho Bozo and his traveling trade me act. With the exception of a better offensive line, there’s little that would get the offense back on track faster than a rejuvenated passing game. There’s been no word yet on whether the Bengals have started any serious conversations with T.J. about re-signing — though news comes today of upcoming discussions next week with Chris Crocker’s agent. Houshmandzadeh has threatened to sit out the offseason if hit with the franchise tag.
Around the ‘tubes: Bengal Stripes is back on-line with a plea for the team to pursue San Diego RB Darren Sproles in March. That’s not a bad thought, but Stripes is right that Sproles will be a hot commodity and the market will quickly price him out of the Bengals’ range.
The Bengal Blitz has the team selecting Jason Smith over Eugene Monroe in its mock draft. If OT is the pick and that choice is there at six, I go with the more experienced Monroe. Smith is still something of a project, and after Stacy Andrews I’ve had enough of those on the line. Whodeyfans picks Michael Oher in nextseasonsports.com’s group blogger draft. Oher’s star has slipped since the Senior Bowl, where he looked like he needed more polishing.
The Bengals open at 60 to 1 to win Super Bowl XLVI.
