The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed TE/FB Daniel Coats. Coats, an undrafted free agent originally signed in 2007, played that season at his college position, tight end, and performed reasonably well. However, after FB Jeremi Johnson ate his way off the team last summer, Coats was pressed into service as a fullback, where he didn’t impress. As a solid special teams player and potential successor to Reggie Kelly in the blocking TE role, Coats is worth keeping around, but this signing does nothing to change the Bengals’ need for a true FB in free agency or the draft.
