Bengals Talking to Fitzpatrick; Chad on Block?

The Bengals are talking with backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick’s agent. Fitz, who went 4-7-1 as Cincinnati’s starting quarterback after Carson Palmer was lost for the season, appears to be looking for a deal in the $2 million a year range, which is historically far more than the Bengals are willing to pay for the No. 2 QB slot. While he would like a starting gig (memo to Fitz: fuggedaboutit) he sounds happy to return. “Sure, I’d love a chance to play, but I’ve loved backing up Carson,” he says. “He’s a great guy to be around and I like Cincinnati. I think there’s a bright future there with all the young guys. The defense really played great and you know they’re going to be better.”

I made a case for re-signing Fitz back in December.

Uber-agent Drew Rosenhaus sent an e-mail to all 32 teams shopping Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress and Anquan Boldin. After word broke in the media, Rosenhaus apparently sent a follow-up admitting he didn’t have permission from the Bengals, Giants or Cardinals to seek a trade for any of those players. An uncharacteristically sloppy move by Drew.

Joe Reedy has a piece on Mike Mayock’s Combine preview. One favor, O Lord: can Michael Crabtree not fall to the Bengals?

Dennis Dillon joins the growing throng who believe T.J. Houshmandzadeh is gone. Big C isn’t hopeful, either, and it’s hard to argue with his conclusion that the Bengals are a poorer team without him. Cincyjungle readers think he’ll end up in Philly, but I’m still betting on a West Coast squad.

More good stuff from John Thornton: if he were the Bengals GM for a day, he would franchise Shayne Graham. He also offers the opinion that Cincinnati could let Levi Jones go if he can’t bounce back from injury.

Oh please, let this be true. Of course, even if it is, Mike Brown still has nothing on Jerry Jones.

Bering Sea Bengal joins me on the B.J. Raji bandwagon. Welcome aboard!
