Bengals, Houshmandzadeh Talking; Palmer “Lobbying T.J. Hard” to Stay

Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson confirms that the Cincinnati Bengals and WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh are talking, as reported earlier by the National Football Post and NFL.com’s Adam Schefter.

Bengals QB Carson Palmer is pitching in, “lobbying Houshmandzadeh hard” to stay in stripes. Housh says he wants to have a deal, either with the Bengals or another team, by Saturday night.

Update: Hobson says Tampa Bay is interested in Housh, and Philly is interested in both him and Stacy Andrews.

Update 2: 12:23 EST and John “Cryptkeeper” Clayton on NFL Live says that the Bengals are “surprisingly” still in the hunt for Housh. Why? The impact of Carson Palmer, who is lending his pleas to those of Cincinnati’s front office. With Tampa Bay and its $61 million in cap space in the mix, that may not matter in the end, but the Bengals are, by all accounts, hanging in there. Stay tuned.

Update 3: Rolling toward 1 a.m. Eastern the Cryptkeeper updates Housh’s situation. He is still talking to the Bengals but has “at least five opportunities:” the Giants, Eagles, Bucs, Seahawks and 49ers. If the Bengals do succeed in hanging onto Housh, Clayton asks “what does that mean for Ocho Cinco?” My own guess is that retaining Housh increases the likelihood that Cincinnati will look to deal Chad.
