In my view, it amounts to the same thing. If you want to play in free agency, you have to overpay. The Skins overpaid for Haynesworth, the Seahawks overpaid for TJ and we overpaid for Coles. Tis the nature of the free agent beast.

Your car analogy is a good one, but in free agency, it’s a case of only a very limited number of cars being available. If there are 32 buyers but only 3 cars, well, that Geo Metro is going to cost $100k and the Porche will run you seven figures.

Ummm, Rosenthal doesn’t accuse the Bengals of spending too much money, he accuses them of paying too much for mediocre talent.

If you come home with a $60k Porsche and the wife says “You spent too much money”. That’s one thing. When you come home with a Geo Metro you paid $15k for and the wife says “You paid too much for that car”, that’s a completely different thing. We are being accused of paying too much and not getting a Porsche.

And the reality is that we HAVE to overpay people to play in the purgatory that is Cincy football, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it Mr. Rosenthal.

Profligacy!!! Benson, Crocker, and Jeanty. Those three alone cure a lot of what ails our team. Namely, that we get sand kicked in our face. Three boys that bring weight upon impact. Just what we needed.

How about a coach?

I don’t mean to sound overly rude, but I think too much hype gets put into this, “we need a vet to teach him.”

Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve said it before, I think Coles is better than Housh, but I still would have rather spent the $7 Mil/year (and definitely the $3 Mil/year for Burk) to get a Center. But I think if we get the best Center in the draft, we’ll be just fine.

Good reasons just need experience on the center position. With gui getting waxed last year we really need a vet to get this line rollin. If we draft a rookie center whose going to teach him?
