Bengals Sift Through Free Agent Fullbacks

by Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals confirmed yesterday’s visit with restricted free agent fullback John Kuhn (Packers). Like earlier visitor Naufahu Tahi, another restricted free agent fullback, Kuhn left Cincinnati without an offer.

“The dilemma teams face is that they need to make an offer that’s good enough so the other team won’t match,” Kuhn’s agent, Kevin Gold, told bengals.com.

In that case, why not pursue a fullback who’s unrestricted? Last week, the Saints cut veteran fullback Mike Karney, a powerful lead blocker who seems ideally suited to the team’s needs. Karney is visiting the Rams today.

Another possibility is Seattle FB Leonard Weaver, who was the consensus top fullback in free agency this year. However, interest in Weaver has been low, apparently due to the money he’s asking for. Weaver is also known more for his rushing and receiving skills than his lead blocking — though he reportedly improved his blocking last season — and so might not fit what the Bengals are looking for.

Also still on the market is one-time Bengals FB Lorenzo Neal, who spent last season in Baltimore.

Yeah, I just put up a post about Pace. Would have had it up earlier but my internet connection is buggy today.

Now that Orlando Pace is released, I would like the Bengals to take a gander. I know he is old but it would make it less stressful to take a tackle in the first. Especially when the best two might not fall to 6th.
