Thursday Reads: Draft Picture Remains Fuzzy
Andre Smith’s poor workout at Alabama’s Pro Day yesterday further muddied the picture for the Cincinnati Bengals’ selection at six in the upcoming NFL Draft. With Andre and Michael Oher now being deemed unworthy of a top pick (and in Andre’s case perhaps even a first-round selection), that leaves just two possibilities for the OT-hungry Bengals: Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe — and both could easily go in the top five.
Of course, if Andre does slide as badly as some are now predicting, he will easily be there when the Bengals come up again at 38, and despite the question marks he has generated I don’t think the Bengals would let him fall any further. And the one-two punch of, say, Brian Orakpo or B.J. Raji in the first followed by a ticked-off, something-to-prove Andre Smith in the second is very appealing. But at this point I still have to file that under “dreams, pipe.”
Speaking of Pro Days, C. Trent will be attending UC’s today.
Fanhouse loves Ocho Cinco, hates on Cedric Benson.

I just don’t see Andre Smith falling that far. I don’t think he’d make it past Washington at 13. If you look at reports or watch NFLN, eveyone says he looked good in the positional drills. Good game tape and positional drills will keep him high.
March 12th, 2009 at 7:29 amI agree: it’s tough to see him falling very far. But for a guy once projected to go at 1 or 2, 13 is a big $$$ drop.
March 12th, 2009 at 7:59 amI guess the question I keep asking myself is, Do I want the Bengals to draft him? The laziness and not being prepared (lack of maturity) bothers me more than a slow 40 time. Hey, maybe he just received bad advice and is naive…
March 12th, 2009 at 10:49 amI’m in the same boat. Talent-wise, he’s worth the sixth…but if they take him it looks like he will need a full-time babysitter.
