With the Sixth Pick in the Fansided Collaborative Mock Draft…

by Bengals

…the Cincinnati Bengals select Alabama OT Andre Smith.

The Bengals entertained a trade offer from a team with a mid-round pick which offered that selection plus a starting right tackle, but that player will be a free agent in 2010 and Cincinnati had no guarantee it would be able to sign him prior to next March. The team declined to add a second-round selection in 2010 to the deal, leaving the Bengals stuck at six.

With the top two tackles, Aaron Curry and Michael Crabtree off the board, the Bengals considered both Brian Orakpo and Tyson Jackson, but in the end the team already has both money and draft picks invested at DE, while the o-line at best lacks depth, and at worst lacks starters. Andre should be able to contribute immediately at RT, assuming the Bengals can get him into camp on time.

The ludicrous money the top picks will be paid makes them all hopelessly risky. Tackle is a position of need, Smith is arguably best player available, all you can do is pull the trigger and hope for the best.

The more I see how things are shaking out, the more
I think that Andre Smith will be taken at #6.
I don't buy alot of the garbage about Andre, but man
he has made some bad decisions.

Left the Combine and didn't tell anyone?
Ran without a shirt at the Pro day to show
he lost weight?
Fired his Agent a week or so before the draft?

I say red flag, but the Bengals say...pay the man!
