Wave buh-bye to punter Kyle Larson, who got a new deal last spring and proceeded to stink it up last fall, and hello to hometown favorite Kevin Huber, University of Cincinnati.
One of — if not the — top punters available, Huber is a smart pick here in the fifth round. Larson was insanely inconsistent last season. One kick would go 50 yards, then the next attempt would be a 12-yard shank. With an offense that was struggling as much as Cincy’s was, the poor punting only made things worse. The Bengals already brought in free agent punter Ryan Plackemeier to compete with Larson, but Huber just became the front-runner to be Cincinnati’s 2009 bootman.
Good, solid move, says OMCW.
Kirk wonders if Huber couldn’t have been had later, but tables that discussion for now.
