Report: Smith, Bengals to Begin Talks
Muckraker Mike, now in spiffy new digs at NBC, passes along an anonymously sourced report that the Cincinnati Bengals will open talks this week with first-round pick Andre Smith and his agent, Alvin Keels. Over at the official site, Geoff Hobson agrees that things should start heating up “in the next week or so” and predicts that any snags will likely be over incentives and escalators, not total money. And indeed, that’s been the case in a number of previous negotiations. But…no sense in borrowing trouble ahead of time. And as I’ve written before, I’m not overly concerned thanks to [...]
I Hope Andre Caldwell Never Takes a Wildcat Snap
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Andre Caldwell will see more of the “Wildcat” formation in 2009 after getting a handful of snaps in the Wildcat last season. Caldell played quarterback in high school, and tossed a five-yard TD pass in the 2006 SEC Championship game, so he’s got the skill set necessary to for the ‘cat. But I doubt we see a lot of it. Andre Smith Doesn’t Want a Holdout
Cincinnati Bengals first round pick Andre Smith says that he wants to be in camp on time. Good for him. I want him in on time. So do the Bengals, so does every other fan, so…here’s the question. Are you, and your agent Alvin Keels, prepared to play ball by Mike Brown’s rules? Contrary to popular perception, Brown will pay you. But traditionally, the sticking point is performance. The Bengals don’t go in for so-called “log” incentives (as in, “as easy to earn as falling off a log”). Play well, and you’ll be well-compensated. Flub it up, and not so [...]
