Well, that didn’t take long, did it? Four days into camp the Cincinnati Bengals have their first season-ending injury. TE Reggie Kelly went down today with an Achilles injury.
This follows a foot injury to CB David Jones that reportedly requires a second opinion, making me think Jones may be facing surgery, as well as a hamstring injury to backup WILL LB Brandon Johnson. Johnson, at least, seems likely to return by the start of the season.
The injury to Jones was serious enough that the Bengals snatched CB Jamar Fletcher off the street, though former Bengal John Thornton believes S Chris Crocker could be pressed into a nickel CB role.
As Nate noted earlier, the Kelly injury completely scrambles the picture at tight end. With heralded draft pick Chase Coffman still not fully recovered from a foot injury, it’s down to Ben Utecht, who couldn’t stay healthy last year, and sometimes TE, sometimes FB Daniel Coats.
And so the injury woes continue…sigh.

I think mentioning Lawrie may be premature, as he was the “informer” last year preceding the first Ravens game. There are probably several youg TE’s that can be had to come in and block if needed.
We are especially thin at corner and the Jones injury/Fletcher re-signing indicates the seriousness of the lack of depth. Any other decent CB’s out there?
Actually, the informer was Big Willy, who was photographed hanging with the defensive coaches on the sidelines helping them swipe our signals. Frankly, the Lawrie suggestion was just a gag, but sadly he’d probably be a more sure blocker than anyone else we have right now.
As for CBs, let me just say:
So, How Long Before They Sign Pacman?
Utech couldn’t handle prosperity. They tell him he is now main man and he immediately does the colapsis. He is a class act as a person. I don’t buy him as a player. Bengals got sucked in. Three million a year just to appear on the roster sheet. He is not tough enough for this division. Send him back to Indianapolis, or mabey they smelled something when they let him go. I don’t believe he can help us but teams don’t act on belief but only reality on these matters and will not cut him. Although mabey he should quit for his own good.
Theres a log jam of the 9 remaining round one draftees. No signings for over a week although there’s some rumor 2 are getting near, jets and kc.
Bengals are in a squeeze between the QB and Oakland pick which big Al over paid just to get him in camp. Sounds like hysteria since some rank the WR as third round material to begin with. And he has been screwing up in camp. Bengals will pay for Smith but they are not going to go to extremism.Andrews wants to get in but his agent wants the blown up bracket money. So its up to Collins, he is the key man in this scenario
