Barf. Despite a previous quote from Mike Brown saying that the Bengals would not pursue Mike Vick, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer reports that the team did precisely that. Glazer tweeted that Cincinnati offered Vick a two-year contract worth $2.3 million.
So let me get this straight. The team is unwilling to give Andre Smith a few more million because he’s an unproven player who seems prone to bad decisions and perhaps Burger King Whoppers. But they are willing to give a convicted dog fighter, a quarterback with a career completion percentage below 55-percent, someone who hasn’t played in two years and might not be better than Jordan Palmer right now (I’m serious about that) more than two million? Barf. I suppose it makes perfect sense considering our owner’s penchant for saving souls. (Why can’t we just ordain Mike Brown as a minister and let him baptize a few folks in the Ohio River before games? Maybe that will keep him from trying to save every lost sheep in the NFL). At least Vick said no, saving the Bengals from the circus.Thankfully, the Bengals play the Saints tonight without Ron Mexico as a backup quarterback.
According to Bengals.com an improving Anthony Collins will start at right tackle. I was encouraged by the fact that Collins played the position before at Kansas, something that will only help his transition. I see him starting there in Week 1.
In other news, Jordan Palmer says his big brother’s arm and accuracy is better than ever.
And “Big C” goes one-on-one with “Mr. Push-Up” Chase Coffman, who figures to play a lot tonight.
Who Dey.

Between Hard Knocks and the Vick bit, my enthusiasm for the season has nose-dived in the past three days. A decent showing by the first team tonight would help…oh, and no injuries.
I think you are as crazy as Mike Brown is cheap. The Bengals should have given Vick a chance like Andy Reid did. Brown basically low balled Vick, offering 2.3 mil for two years. They should have offered him something similar to what the Eagles gave him with incentive laced bonuses. They draft Smith 6th overall then try and low ball him into camp and now they’ve done the same with Vick. Smith will be worthless to them this year now, if he doesn’t get into camp soon.
Also, it’s time to get off Vick’s back, everyone screws up in life, some worse than others. It’s what you learn from those mistakes which makes the difference. Ever hear of a person named Chuck Colson? God is the only on with the right to judge and condemn, not any of us.

Well, that would have had the virtue of allowing me to write the season off and find more productive outlets for blogging. Yeah, that’s just the ticket to the playoffs: bring the Vick circus to town. It would make me yearn for the mild days of Ocho Bozo and his “trade me” campaign.
I agree. For once the team doesn’t seem to have many distractions. Bringing in Vick would have changed that completely. Despite their best efforts, they avoided the circus. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the good luck continues.
