UPDATE: Per the link below, QB Carson Palmer also may not go in the home opener against the Rams as he continues to nurse an ankle sprain.
UPDATE 2: Cincinnati has signed former Wake Forest K Sam Swank, who will presumably finish out the preseason in place of Graham. Swank was considered a top kicking prospect after his junior year, but was hobbled in his senior campaign by a (wait for it) groin injury.
OP: Cincinnati Bengals kicker Shayne Graham, who was held out of Thursday’s game against the New England Patriots with a groin injury, may not go again until the start of the regular season.
The move is being billed as a precautionary one, but it represents the third time in three seasons that Graham has gotten hurt in August. Last year, he missed the first two game with a similar groin problem.
The Bengals are reportedly working out kickers and will sign one to finish out the preseason in the coming days.
Graham is the team’s 2009 franchise player.
