Bengals – Lions Open Thread

The Cincinnati Bengals host the Detroit Lions at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati today. RB Cedric Benson returns to the lineup after two weeks resting a hip injury, but the Bengals will be without starting DT Domata Peko and RB/KR Bernard Scott in their bid to secure just the second winning season in the last 20 years. Peko is out with a knee injury, while Scott is battling turf toe.
With Scott out, Larry Johnson moves into the No. 2 RB role.
Also inactive today for the Bengals are usual suspects Jerome Simpson and Crash Dummy. RT Andre Smith will see his second straight week of live NFL action.
Lions get the ball first, pick up a first down but stall. Bengals get a nice return from Cosby, and set up shop on their 40.

December 6th, 2009 at 6:39 pmEnd Q1. Lions up by 7. Bengals offense has been horrible. Can’t run (Benson has 13 yards on 7 runs), can’t pass (Palmer is 3/8 for 34 yards and a pick), and can’t stop Detroit (K. Smith has 22 yards on 4 carries, 90 yards passing for the Lions already). Ugh, ugh, ugh.

December 6th, 2009 at 7:29 pm17-7 Bengals at halftime. Ugly game by Cincinnati. Palmer is barely over 50% passing, with 129 yards and 1 TD to go with his pick. Offense has managed just 10 points and accounts for nearly all the 50 yards in first-half penalties. Benson is averaging 3 yards a carry versus 4 a lug for Kevin Smith. Stafford’s stats, 7/18, 99 yards, a TD and a pick, are about the same as Palmers’. Both Chad and Megatron have 4 grabs for 70+ yards.
Elsewhere, Pitt is struggling against Oakland, leading just 10-6 at the half. Schaub has gone out with an injury in Houston and Jax is pounding them 20-7. Denver, NE and Indy all winning at the moment.
December 6th, 2009 at 7:36 pmBengals open the half by driving 67 yards in nearly 7 minutes…for a chip-shot FG after they stall out at the Detroit 11. Look, I’ll take the points, but they need to score TDs in the red zone. That kick brings to 13 the points scored by the O today. 20-7 Bengals.
