In a blow to the league’s top scoring defense, the Cincinnati Bengals lost DT Domata Peko for the immediate future after he underwent knee surgery. Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said he was hopeful that Peko would be able to return by the season finale against the New York Jets.
The loss puts the pressure on second-year man Pat Sims and on-again, off-again Bengal Orien Harris. Without Peko yesterday against Detroit, Cincinnati got gashed by the Lions’ Kevin Smith for 75 yards on just 16 carries. That doesn’t bode well with Adrian Peterson-fueled Minnesota up next.
If the Bengals can top the Favrekings, they would clinch the AFC North with a loss by Baltimore either tonight against Green Bay, or next weekend against Detroit (ha ha). Whether they get the second seed and a first-round bye may well be decided in two weeks, when the Bengals travel to San Diego to take on the Chargers.
UPDATE: Green Bay 17, Baltimore 0 at halftime. Go Pack!
UPDATE 2: Ravens storm back. 17-14 Pack at the end of three.
UPDATE 3: An horrific, penalty-filled game (combined 310 (!!!) yards between both clubs) ends in a 27-14 Green Bay victory. Bengals play for the division crown next weekend in Minnesota! WHO-DEY!
