Some random facts to impress your friends with at tonight’s New Year’s Eve parties. Everyone have fun, remember to call a cab or just sleep it off, and I’ll see you all in 2010.

  • The Bengals have reached double-digit wins for just the 8th time in franchise history.
  • Through 15 games, the Bengals have allowed 254 points. If they hold the Jets to fewer than 30 points, they will break the franchise record for a full 16-game season, 284, set in 1978.
  • While 2009 will be the 9th time that Cincinnati has qualified for postseason play, it’s the first time the team has done so without a having a single player named to the Pro Bowl.

The Bengals do not have a winning record against any of the current AFC playoff teams.

Franchise Records vs. 2009 Playoff Teams
Team Bengals Record
Indianapolis Colts 8-15
San Diego Chargers 10-19
New England Patriots 8-13
Denver Broncos 8-17
New York Jets 7-13

In the postseason, the Bengals are 1-0 lifetime against the Chargers, and 0-1 versus the Jets.

Depending on how things shake out in week 17, the Ravens, Steelers, Dolphins or Texans could snatch a wild card spot away from New York or Denver. Of those teams, the Bengals have a winning franchise record against only the Texans (3-2), who defeated Cincinnati soundly earlier this year 28-17.
