The Combine has (surprise!) the NFL rumor ‘n’ speculation ‘n’ disinformation mill running at full blast. Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis put in his $0.02 today, providing some insight into how the team is approaching this year’s draft.
That the team’s top priority is getting more out of the passing game is no secret.
We need to be able to make vertical plays and if we throw it down 40 yards and get a pass interference penalty that counts. Those are the things we’re going to look to do. We need to make more chunk plays offensively and be able to [...]

The Cincinnati Bengals and the Dallas Cowboys will kick off the 2010 NFL preseason August 6 in Canton, Ohio in the annual Hall of Fame Game.
Both franchises are celebrating inductions that take place the day before at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Former Bengals head coach and long-time assistant Dick LeBeau takes his spot 32 years after he became eligible. Meanwhile, 41-year-old Emmitt Smith, the former Cowboys running back and NFL’s all-time leading rusher, celebrates his first-ballot election.
For the first time in 28 years, the game at Fawcett Stadium lines up division champions. The Bengals won the AFC North [...]
The overhyped meat market known as the NFL Combine is almost upon us, so here’s one last look at the mockosphere’s pre-combine predictions for the Cincinnati Bengals at 21 this April.
As has been the case all year, Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham remains far ahead of the pack. In fact, there’s been remarkably little movement at the top of the board over the last month, though it’s worth noting that LSU WR Brandon LaFell continues to slide down, while SoCal safety Taylor Mays has crept (barely) into double-digits and a tie for fourth place.
Assembled with the help of fansided’s mock draft [...]
Who Else Needs Saved?
Mike Brown’s Rescue Shelter is still looking for wayward souls in need of a good home. Say, wasn’t that Terrell Owens we just saw wandering alone on the side of the highway?
The Bengals will sign kicker Dave Rayner within the next day or two, according to a report from local TV station WKRC.
Dave Rayner was signed with the Bengals for a game in ‘08 when Graham was hurt and made a 26 yarder and three extra points before being released after two games. He didn’t kick for anyone last year.
The move likely marks the end of Shayne Graham’s tenure in Cincinnati. Graham missed a pair of easy field goals in the playoff loss to the New York Jets.
UPDATE: ESPN’s Chris Mortenson is reporting that WR Matt Jones will sign with the Bengals.
OP: Following up on a report from Muckraker Mike, Joe Reedy confirms that the Bengals have an offer on the table for former Jaguars receiver Matt Jones.
The Bengals and Titans have both offered former Jaguars receiver Matt Jones a contract. According to The Tennessean, the Titans have been interested in Jones since last September while Jones visited with the Bengals this week.
The deal is believed to be slightly above the league minimum of $630,000. Neither team also would not have to wait until the start of [...]
Just like everyone else (or so it seems), Todd McShay gave the Bengals a tight end, Jermaine Gresham, in his latest mock. I can’t believe the Bengals would use a first-round pick on a tight end a year after using a third-round pick on one. At least I hope they don’t. I’d much rather them address the position in free agency and give Chase Coffman a chance to develop. I’ll get into more detail and address my thoughts on T.O. in the Bengals’ offseason lineup.
1 – Tight end. It’s obviously a weak spot on the Bengals roster, but in my [...]
Fan Views
Since this page is, after all, a fansided.com production, it seemed like a good idea this evening to take a look at what fans of players projected to go to the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round thought of their guys. So, via the magic of teh google, I’ve dug up some fan forum threads on the top five candidates. File it under FWIW.
Jermaine Gresham:
The way most NFL teams will look at it, it will be a year of him not taking any hits and his knee will be fine.
They have already seen what he can do
Jermaine came back to [...]
It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and the Cincinnati Bengals…aren’t playing. Oh well, neither are 29 other teams, and at least the Bengals can hang their hats on their second AFC North championship in five seasons. However, winning their third in six seasons will require a solid draft this coming April, and I grow more uneasy each time I start thinking about the draft.
Why? Because it’s practically a foregone conclusion that the Bengals will cash in most, if not all, of their premium picks on offensive skill positions — and the team’s recent track record in that regard is terrible.
Wide receivers? Since [...]
