In Defense of Reggie Kelly

Geoff Hobson believes the team will soon re-sign Reggie Kelly. As they should.

Yes, Reggie Kelly is old. Yes, he is recovering from a season-ending injury last year. Yes, he is limited as a receiver. But there are a lot of players who can’t be measured by mere statistics and measurables. And Kelly is one of them. Quite frankly, I don’t care if Kelly plays a single snap this season. But having a guy like him in the locker room and on the practice field is well worth the veteran minimum investment (it shouldn’t take much more than that). Kelly can teach youngsters Jermaine Gresham and Chase Coffman how to block. And he can teach everyone how to act. The guy is a true professional who seems to gain respect from everyone, including QB Carson Palmer.

This move is about more than things that can be measured. More than just stats and dollars. And it makes a lot of sense. Re-sign Reggie Kelly.

    Amen!

Having Kelly around to teach Gresham and Coffman is the best investment this team could make in those two, even if he never sets foot on the field. But having him in on 10-12 plays for the 4 games against Pittsburgh and Baltimore would make the veteran minimum a steal.

    I couldn’t agree more with TechGuy….
Love to see him blast those tackles for Balt in Schittsburg.
I really hope Coffman is past the ankle problem and can get on the field……if he has passed the blocking test that is.
