Call Me Crazy…
It makes no sense. None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Zero. But somehow, some way, I think the Bengals will find a way to keep the game close Sunday. Maybe they’ll even win. I can’t explain how. On paper, the Saints seem to have every edge. Their offense is dangerous. Cincinnati’s defense is banged up. And yet, in this season of insanity, I have a hunch that something crazy might happen Sunday. Maybe the Bengals will finally get some big plays from their special teams. Maybe the cold weather (estimated at 32-degrees with a wind chill in the 20s) will cripple the [...]
Willie Anderson Goes Off
I don’t tweet, so I did see any of this going down last night. But thanks to Lance McAlister’s blog, those of us who do not follow Willie Anderson on Twitter can get a peak into the locker room to see a major cause for the “locker room problems” that have plagued the Bengals for years. Context: Willie decided to respond to hearing Steve Young say that the Bengals haven’t had a strong locker room since Munoz. I’d love to plagiarize the entire thing, but here are some of the money quotes. Man that pisses me off! Not at Steve but [...]
Yes We Can. I Hope.
I had an idea today (which is always dangerous). Somewhere between Paul Daugherty’s fascinating article on “T-shirt-gate” and my own frustrations with Bengal fandom, an epiphany occurred. I decided to go old-school. Grassroots. And create something that would earn a big ole chest bump from a bespectacled – (Holy word power Batman!) – Ben Franklin if he were still alive today. I’m starting a petition. And I’m not asking for much. All I want is for Bengals owner Mike Brown to make a pledge to add something to the Bengals scouting department. After losing 200 games faster than any other [...]
DE Over QB
With the Bengals hosting the Saints in two days, I ought to be examining the game. But honestly, what is the point? We all know what is going to happen. Instead, I’d like to look at a little tidbit from a scouting report on the Bengals to highlight why I believe the Bengals have a far greater need at defensive end than they do at QB. I know I’m in the minority here, but hear me out.
‘Tis the Season for Reggie Kelly
The media world can be cynical. Negative. Miserable. Since I am only a semi, pseudo, quasi-journalist, I don’t consider myself any of those. Which makes me happy to pass along this story about Reggie Kelly from the Insightful Player. I always knew Kelly was one of the NFL’s good guys, but this story explains it all. He’s the humble player we never hear enough about. And a Cincinnati Bengal we can be proud of. Amen, Reverend Reggie.
Bengals Sign Clint…
Sorry to disappoint some of you, but Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood) won’t be playing for the Bengals. Instead, Cincinnati signed kicker Clint Stitser, who had been working as a realtor in Nevada before the Bengals called. Stitser beat out a few others in a Tuesday tryout featuring Sam Swank, Nick Novak, Garrett Lindholm, and a plumber from Covington, Kentucky (the last one is a joke. Probably). Stitser does have some NFL experience after some preseason work with the Seahawks and some time with the Jets this spring. Hopefully, Stitser can inject some life into the Bengals kicking game. What started [...]
