Looking at the latest mock draft it brought in an interesting perspective to the Bengals. Two big quotes stuck out to me as I read the article. The first being from Peter King when talking to PFT:
As SI’s Peter King told PFT Live Monday, “I will not believe the Bengals aren’t taking Blaine Gabbert until I see it with my own eyes.” Popular mock-draft thinking has Mike Brown‘s team drafting a receiver, either A.J. Greenor Julio Jones. We’re sticking with Gabbert in the fourth spot.
Another interesting piece was the Bengals pick itself. Evan Silva suggested the Bengals would take Blaine Gabbert Junior QB from Missouri. Going against the grain as many of you fans may know. But what’s even more interesting is the reasoning:
Gabbert is the highest rated pocket passer in the 2011 draft, even if he never fully put it together at Mizzou. Cincinnati has been linked to pass catchers, but Jerome Simpson, Jordan Shipley, Jermaine Gresham, andAndre Caldwell form a passable nucleus. Who’s going to throw to them?
What’s so interesting about this is Silva said what many fans actually thought from the end of the season. “Do the Bengals actually need to draft a WR?” I mean from what we as fans saw was that Simpson was finally coming into his own, and Caldwell was looking like the receiver that put the dagger in multiple teams hearts during the 2009-10 season. It may be Green it may not, but a big question is simply “Which is more important to your team? A quarterback or a receiver?” If the player many list as the #1 at both positions is there, who do you go with? I don’t know Cincinnati fan, who do YOU go with?
