A quick mock before the draft arrives this Thursday evening. Not all picks that I like but picks that I think are realistic and that the Bengals have shown some interest in or coached in the Senior Bowl.
1. AJ Green, WR, Georgia – Dynamic WR that fits the bill for Jay Gruden’s offense. Can run the full route tree and contribute early.
2. Andy Dalton, QB, TCU – I’m not sold on Andy Dalton, but apparently the Bengals see something in him and are showing quite a bit of interest in him. I would feel better if we got Christian Ponder but he will be off the board before we pick.
3. John Moffitt, G, Wisconsin – A mauling guard that is needed to help bolster the running game. Marvin Lewis seemed to really like Moffitt at the Senior Bowl.
4. Jaiquawn Jarrett, S, Temple – A true in the box strong safety. Needs to work on his pass coverage but would fill in the hole at SS.
5. Buster Skrine, CB, UT-Chattanooga – With Jonathan Joseph a lingering FA and both Leon Hall and Adam Jones FA`s the next year we look to add a developmental CB prospect.
6. Alex Green, RB, Hawaii – Green runs hard and played in that pass happy Hawaii offense. No ones if Cedric Benson is going to return to the team and we need a RB to split time with Benard Scott
7. Kai Forbath, K, UCLA – Would prefer Henery but I think he goes in the 6th round as the top kicker, so we settle for Forbath. Has a big leg to kick 50+ yard FG’s.
7 (comp pick). Vidal Hazelton, WR, Cincinnati – WR needs to be addressed and this pick will soley be made on who the have highest on their draft board. Vidal Hazelton was highly touted coming out of HS and went to USC where he had a successful sophomore campaign. He later transferred to Cincinnati after he got buried on the depth chart because of an injury and his grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and wanted to be closer to him. He is a possession style WR that has a lot to prove after he lost his senior season to a torn ACL in the first game with the Bearcats.
