Marvin Still Trying Not to Tip His Hand.
Coach Lewis is making a few interesting Draft comments recently. It really looks like he is trying to toss as much smoke screen he can before the draft. Tossing around such great quotes as: “We’ve evaluated quarterbacks but I don’t think we’re forced into any situation any way or another. I think we want to be very, very careful to make sure we… get the value for the picks where we’re making them.” Translation: “We’re not trading up for a Quarterback.” And I don’t blame him, no matter what happens someone will fall to them. Be it a Cam Newton [...]
Reason For Hope: Part 2
Defense: Geno Atkins is a guy who Mike Zimmer said he “put his chip on” during the draft last year. What does that mean? Look for him to EARN a starting job over Tank Johnson this summer. Tank was supposed to come in and give us a pass rushing monster from the inside. Instead all we have to show is TWO sacks and 39 tackles in two seasons. Geno gave us 3 last year alone on minimal playing time. Double his snaps and we could have something special in the middle. I love Peko and he is great at clogging [...]
Ex Bengals Talking Draft.
Two former Bengals greats turned TV personalities have been talking a lot about the NFL draft. The two being QB Boomer Esiason and WR Cris Collinsworth. A few days ago some NFL TV personalities got together on a conference call and answered a few questions from Draft writers. Boomer made some interesting statements overall, saying things like: “Carson Palmer has checked out of the Cincinnati hotel…I feel for him.”
Reason For Hope: Part One
Only the most hardcore Bengals fans would make it through another 4-12 season without completely jumping ship. I’m going to touch on a few things on both sides of the ball that gives even the most pessimistic fans a reason for hope. This will be a two part story so we will start with the side of the ball with the most questions. Offense: Jermaine Gresham is a complete beast out there and despite coming off a knee injury from college he proved very durable. Gresham fits much better in Gruden’s system than that of Bratkowski because of the quick [...]
April 23 Mock Draft
A quick mock before the draft arrives this Thursday evening. Not all picks that I like but picks that I think are realistic and that the Bengals have shown some interest in or coached in the Senior Bowl. 1. AJ Green, WR, Georgia – Dynamic WR that fits the bill for Jay Gruden’s offense. Can run the full route tree and contribute early.
Coach Sam Wyche on QB’s
Coach Wyche knows a thing or two about the QB position. Especially since this is a man who had a direct hand in the drafting of 3 different Pro Bowl QB’s (compiling 16 among the 3 of them). The QB’s I’m speaking of are none other then Bengals greats Ken Anderson, Boomer Esiason and NFL HOF QB Joe Montana. When breaking down the position coach spoke about a few key things for the success of an NFL QB. Even though it’s decades later from when he was a NFL HC, he said somethings never change:
Munoz to Announce 2nd round pick.
All 32 teams have selected 1 player to announce their respective teams 2nd round pick. And announcing the 2nd round pick for the Bengals will be number 78 himself, Anthony Munoz. This is a very interesting choice because the best player in the history of the franchise may just be announcing the next Franchise Quarterback of the team. It really seems fitting that the only “career Bengal” in the HOF announce the pick, and hopefully some of that HOF talent rubs off on the pick. (Just wishful thinking.) Many draftnicks, “gurus”, experts, reporters, guys with sports blogs, are all looking for Cincinnati [...]
On the Bubble.
Oh my, oh my someone check Mike Brown’s pulse. It’s now being rumored that the Bengals (yes the ones from Cincinnati) are now looking at addressing the need of an indoor training facility. This is all coming Joe Reedy from the Cincinnati Enquirer. It’s been going around that the team has talked with the Ohio Utilities Protection Service about any utility work for the facility. Nothing has been set in stone, but the fact talks seem to be “heating up” about an indoor facility shows to be promising. The biggest surprise out of all this is that a team official [...]
