Here’s a look at the Bengals post draft needs, and the likelihood that the Bengals would sign an Undrafted Free Agent for those positions. Then later in the post I’ll be assessing a “mock UDFA signing” going through some of the top undrafted players and taking the best for the Bengals needs.
Offense:
QB: No
No explanation really needed. Dalton’s the future.
RB: No
More and more signs are pointing to the fact that Ced Benson will be back. Attempting to sign a guy like Wisconsin’s John Clay or Auburn’s Mario Fanin would be just taking up space on the the camp roster.
TE: No
No blocking TE’s are catching my eye in the available UDFA’s. Remember both UDFA and veteran FA’s will be signed at the same time. If the Bengals sign a FA TE it would more than likely be a veteran blocker.
WR: Questionable
With the drafting of Stanford WR Ryan Whalen, I would be shocked if the Bengals were to add another WR to the mix. But if The Bengals are looking for another guy to replace Andre or Simpson But Possible camp or practice squad guys could be:
Darvin Adams, Auburn
Ricardo Lockette, Ft Valley State,
Terrence Toliver, LSU,
DeAndre Brown, So. Miss,
Tori Gurley, So. Carolina,
Courtney Smith So. Alabama.
FB: Probable
Grabbing a UDFA could be a great snag to compete with Chris Pressley for the FB position. You may remember what happened with Jeremi Johnson where a lack of competition let the starter become lazy and complacent. The best pick up may potentially be the best FB in the class:
Henry Hynoski, Pitt.
OL: Questionable
It’s unsure if the Bengals would want another project back there with Reggie Stephens, and Otis Hudson already. But long term project lineman Jason Shirley is approaching his “53 or go” season meaning they may be interested in a new project after all. If they were to look at snagging up some UDFA offensive linemen there’s still a few good ones available:
Willie Smith, ECU,
Zach Hurd, UCONN,
Kris O’Down, USC
