Free Agency Update: Drew Brees' Email Suggests FA Coming Soon

A recent email from Saints Quaterback Drew Brees suggests that Free Agency may start a lot sooner then many expected. The original assumption by many that with a CBA reached by today that would lead to Free Agency starting this weekend. Drew Brees has a different take on it then that..

It now looks like free agency will begin at noon on Tuesday and it will be open free agency.  There will be no 3 day grace period for teams to sign their own players.  It will be open for anyone to sign anywhere

Boy oh boy, this means we may be just a little over 28 hours till when Brees’ estimates Free Agency to begin. But on the other side of the coin, he mentions that there will be no “grace period” like many were thought there was going to be.

That means the Bengals will be having to negotiate re-signing players like Johnathan Joseph, Cedric Benson and Jonathan Fanene while also trying to work deals with their “contingency plans” in players like Ike Taylor, Tim Hightower and Jason Babin.

Drew touches on the topic of when training camps will be held as well. Saying:

It looks like the NFL is trying to force teams into camp on time.  This would move us to a report date of Thursday, July 28.

Brees then closes with a line that every blogger and sports writer is thinking right now.

I will keep you updated with the latest information.  Unfortunately, it tends to change very quickly.  Just stay prepared for anything.
