The Bengals Press Conference this morning at 11:30 am was filled with juiciness. The biggest headline was that Mike Brown declared Carson Palmer to have retired.

But, that wasn’t the only bomb that Mike Brown and Marvin dropped today. Here’s a summary of some other major topics from the press conference:

Brown admits the Bengals are looking to sign a veteran QB:

We’ll look for a veteran, but we have a good, young draft pick in Andy Dalton; we like him.

Brown admits Dalton will have “teething problems”, but tells the media “you’ll like him“:

We think he is promising for our future. It won’t be altogether easy for him all the time, but we’re going to put him in there and if he can do it we’re going to go with him. I hope he can manage it. He’s a feisty guy. He’s a poised young guy and I think you’ll find him attractive as a person and as a player. You’ll like him. Wait and see.

Lewis has commitments from 12 new rookie Undrafted Free Agents: [Dang! I have a lot of work to do today...]

I think we probably have commitment of a dozen or so right now.

Lewis anticipates Chad Ochocinco’s return:

We anticipate Chad at training camp.

Lewis cautious about re-signing Benson:

[Reporter: what are the chances of Cedric Benson coming back?] Well I can’t really tell you that. Ced expresses his desires to be back, and I understand that but, uh- y’know, there’s a big percentage there, but we’d be wasting time trying to figure it out.

Lewis indicates when the first day of training camp practice will be:

We’re going to begin with our Physicals here [Paul Brown Stadium] on Thursday, and report to Georgetown on Friday afternoon. First on the field practice will be Saturday afternoon.

Lewis also admits that the team is looking for a veteran QB:

It’s part of our due diligence to see who’s out there. With a veteran quarterback, they can either start or provide back up to whoever is starting. So, that’s something we are desirous of.

It only means that Chad is a Bengal at the time when Marvin said it. As Marvin would say, “things change.”

Well, it does mean that Chad wasn’t an instant salary cap casualty like so many other players already. They said they expect him at training camp. They may cut him later on, but for now, Chad is here. That’s the news. Things are going to change, but finding out that he is wanted back is news in itself.
