AUTHOR: | IN: Mike Brown. | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bengals had a press conference this morning at 11:30, and a number of headlines emerged from the mouths of Bengals Owner Mike Brown and Head Coach Marvin Lewis. The biggest? Carson Palmer “has retired”. Well, according to Mike Brown (video). Mike Brown had this to say about the Carson Palmer issue: I honestly like Carson Palmer. He was a splendid player for us. He is a good person. I wish him well and he has retired. That was his choice… I’m not expecting him to be back. Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment. He gave us his [...]

Report: Bengals sign DE/OLB DeQuin Evans of Kentucky

AUTHOR: | IN: Roster Moves | COMMENTS: None Yet

The twitter world (this one by Matt Jones @KySportsRadio) has revealed another rookie UDFA signing, the Bengals have signed DeQuin Evans, Defensive End/Outside Line Backer from the University of Kentucky. Was the number 15 Junior College prospect in 2009, before he joined the Kentucky Wildcats for the 2009 season. In his ‘rookie’ year (2010), he started all 13 games and placed 5th in the SEC in tackles-for-loss (12.5) and 9th in sacks (6). In 2010, he battled injuries the whole year and didn’t play in 6 of Kentucky’s 13 games. His 2010 stats were pretty miserable when he did play. [...]

Report: Bengals sign a kicker, Thomas Weber of Arizona State

AUTHOR: | IN: Roster Moves | COMMENTS: 14 Comments

Via NE Patriots Draft, the Bengals have signed Thomas Weber, a kicker from Arizona State. As a freshman, Weber was 24/25 in field goals and received the Lou Groza Award, the award to the nation’s best college kicker. He was the first freshman to do this. In his next three seasons, however, he did not live up to expectations. As a sophomore, his statistics suffered a bit from a groin injury. In his junior year, he played only 8 games due to another injury. As a senior, he was healthy but couldn’t return to his freshman level of play, only connecting on 17/24 field goals. It seems that [...]

Report: Bengals sign Offensive Lineman Chris Riley of Illinois State

AUTHOR: | IN: Roster Moves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Via NE Patriots Draft, the Bengals have agreed to terms with Offensive Tackle Chris Riley (76). Bengals back up safety Tom Nelson also confirmed the signing with this tweet: Riley started all 11 games last year with the Illinois State Redbirds at Right Tackle. However, he started at Left Tackle from 2008-2009, starting all 22 games here. Overall, Riley did not receive a combine invite, and was ranked 41th out of 87 Offensive Tackles. This is a fairly low key signing, but this is only the second Undrafted Free Agent that they have (reportedly) signed. Only the Raiders have (reportedly) [...]

ESPN’s John Clayton: Bengals to Target Gradkowski or Sorgi

AUTHOR: | IN: Roster Moves | COMMENTS: None Yet

Clipped from: twitter.com ESPN’s Clayton reporting Bengals working to sign QB’s Jim Sorgi or Bruce Gradkowski. Been hearing interest in Gradkowski for some time. This doesn’t come as a shock considering the fact that with Carson Palmer not under Center this year, the most experienced QB currently on the roster is his younger brother Jordan. With next most tenured QB is  2nd year signal caller Dan Lefevou who has never even seen the field dressed in Bengals stripes. Out of the two choices, neither seems to be a horrible option. In either circumstance it’s strictly a QB who is there [...]

Bengals Agree to Terms With Kent St. FS Brian Lainhart

AUTHOR: | IN: Roster Moves | COMMENTS: None Yet

The first name for the Bengals UDFA class of 2011 has already been named, Brian Lainhart of Kent St. I actually was lucky enough to do an article and  interview with Lainhart back in April before the draft. He seemed to great personal as well as a football player. Here it is: This week I’ll be interviewing Kent St. FS Brian Lainhart. Brian’s coming off a great college career, finishing with over 300 tackles, 8 forced fumbles and was the active leader in interceptions with 17.                     With the lockout over and with players and coaches eager to get into training camp, free agency is bearing down on teams like Peko on Polamalu. For the Bengals, not only does that mean bringing in new talent to fill vital needs, but working to keep current players to avoid creating more needs. On the offense, the Bengals have 4 Unrestricted Free Agents whose fate they must decide: Cedric Benson (RB), Reggie Kelly (TE), Evan Mathis (G), Terrell Owens (WR) and 2 Restricted Free Agents: Kirk Chambers (OT), Brian Leonard [...]

Now that the player’s vote passed just before 2 this afternoon, the lockout is finally over. So, what’s the average fan to do? Laugh? Cry? Re-plaster that hole in the wall from from when you found out the lockout wasn’t over on Thursday night? All very likely scenarios. How about you sit back, watch some videos, and wait for the headlines to roll in. The transactions are going to crash in like the Kool-Aid Man.
