When TE Mickey Shuler was claimed off waivers, the roster appeared to be set at the maximum 53 players per team. But, Shuler failed his physical and the deal never happened.
This meant that the Bengals would be taking one more player on the roster before heading unto Sunday’s matchup at Cleveland. There was some speculation that the player could be another TE or an extra lineman, but the Bengals ended up going with the versatile local product, Rico Murray.
Murray can play both safety and cornerback. Now, the Bengals have 11 secondary players (4 corners, 6 safteties, and Murray).
Murray is a Moeller High School Graduate, who has fought his way onto the team for three years in a row now. In fact, he has been cut on cut down day for 3 consecutive years, but subsequently made the Bengals roster at a later time in the year.
His flexibility may help the Bengals depth in the secondary, and should help against Cleveland’s two strong Tight Ends (Evan Moore and Benjamin Watson) on Sunday.
