The short speedster Andrew Hawkins has finally made his way onto the roster today. Hawkins made splashes in training camp with his quickness and agility, and had a chance at making the team as the team’s 6th receiver, but ultimately WR and kick/punt return specialist Brandon Tate was signed to the team instead. With Hawkins now on the team, it remains to be seen whether rookie Ryan Whelan or Andrew Hakwins will be the team’s 5th active Wide Reciever on game days.
Taking Hawkins’ place on the practice squad is former UC Bearcats WR Armon Binns. Binns had been with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the preseason, but was one of the final releases on cutdown day. Binns had a prolific college career, leading the Big East in all major receiving categories in his senior year.
Both these moves are a result of slot receiver Jordan Shipley being placed on Injured Reserve with an ACL tear in his knee. He was hit low (but legally) on a crossing route during Sunday’s loss to the Broncos. Though every fan loves Shipley and will miss him, and it looks like Andre Caldwell will step comfortably into his role in the offense.
