According to multiple NFL sources, The Oakland Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals are on the verge of completing a trade that would send the Raiders holdout/retired quarterback Carson Palmer from the Bengals in exchange for two first-round picks, one in 2012 and the other is a conditional 1st round pick in 2013 with the details not being disclosed yet. The deal is expected to be finalized before the 4pm trading deadline. This trade comes way outta left field, as most believed Mike Brown would not trade the embattled QB in order to send a message to current and future players that they don’t call the shots, but that Brown does. Acquiring two 1st round picks was too much to turn down twice for Brown, as he reportedly turned down two 1st round draft picks from Washington for embattled WR Chad Johnson in 2007. Perhaps like fine wine, Mike Brown as a GM has gotten better with age.

Hue Jackson was the WR coach with the Bengals from 2004-2006, but was believed to be instrumental in the development of QB Carson Palmer, helping him make multiple Pro Bowls and winning the 2006 Pro Bowl MVP award.
There is no doubt the biggest x-factor in this trade happening was Raiders’ Head Coach Hue Jackson, who was an assistant head coach with the Bengals from 2004-2006, and was believed to be good friends with Mike Brown. He also helped Palmer develop into one of the NFL’s elite QB’s over that span. At one time, the top 3 QB’s in the league were thought to be Manning, Brady, then Palmer. He holds several Bengals passing records and was on pace to shatter every passing record, but decided he was fed up with how the organization was run and demanded trade this past off-season. Since Palmer’s initial off-season trade demands were not met, he retired and has been working out in Southern California with former Jets quarterback Ken O’Brien. The Bengals have now officially moved on from the Carson Palmer era, and are now in the Andy Dalton era.
UPDATE:
Chris Mortenson is reporting the conditional pick in 2013 is a 1st rounder if Raiders win 1 playoff game or it’s a 2nd rounder, and the Bengals still get the 1st rounder in next April’s NFL Draft.
