Sunday Inactives: DE Carlos Dunlap OUT, CB Adam Jones OUT, TE Jermaine Gresham STARTING

The inactives for today’s game have been released. They are:

Sands, Moch, Boling, and Whalen have been inactive for most games this year. Backup tight end Lee has a foot injury, and his absence would have been a big one, had Jermaine Gresham been unable to go. Adam Jones would have been a nice addition to the Bengals’ pass defense as their 3rd cornerback and possibly punt returner, but Jones is inactive for today. Finally, the biggest loss of today is DE Carlos Dunlap, who is rated as the best defensive end in the league by the site ProFootballFocus. Dunlap may have only 3 sacks this year, but he leads the league in QB hits (10), and is 4th in QB pressures (24). For reference, second best on the Bengals in both hits and pressures is DT Geno Atkins with 5 hits and 11 pressures. Dunlap’s presence on the end will be missed, especially in the 4th quarter. But Jonathan Fanene and Frostee Rucker, who are expected to replace Dunlap, will play well in his absence.

Both TE Jermaine Gresham and middle LB Rey Maualuga are active and expected to start for the Steelers game.

For the Steelers, inactives today are are LB Lamar Woodley, WR Emmanuel Sanders, WR Arnaz Battle, QB Dennis Dixon, DE Al Woods, OT James Meredith, and NT Chris Hoke.

S Troy Polamalu (ribs) missed two practices this week, but is probable to play.
