Rookie Wide Receiver AJ Green was the only Bengal player to make it to the 2012 Pro Bowl after the official voting ended a few weeks ago. However, both Andy Dalton and Geno Atkins still have a legitimate shot at making it to this year’s Pro Bowl, thanks to New England and Baltimore.

Dalton is behind Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, and Philip Rivers in the AFC quarterback pool. If Tom Brady’s Patriots make it to the Superbowl, then Dalton is going to the 2012 Pro Bowl. Dalton could also go if Ben Roethlisberger’s hurt ankle forces him to sit out the Pro Bowl, which I can also see happening.

Geno Atkins is behind Haloti Ngata, Vince Wilfork, and Richard Seymour. Atkins actually has a better shot than Dalton because both Ngata’s Ravens and Wilfork’s Patriots are still in Superbowl contention.

Andrew Whitworth was originally selected as a second alternate for AFC tackles, but Jake Long is expected to miss the Pro Bowl after he was put on IR December 28th due to a torn right bicep muscle. Whitworth is now first alternate, but he would need another injury to make it because none of the players above him are on Superbowl contending teams.

It’s the same story for Mike Nugent, who is behind only Sebastian Janikowski of the Oakland Raiders.

In any case, Bengals fans should be rooting for Baltimore and New England to both win against their playoff opponents this weekend! Baltimore will face the Houston Texans on Sunday, January 15th at 1 pm on CBS. The New England Patriots are matched up against Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos on Saturday, January 14th at 8 pm on CBS.
