The Bengals were debating on weather to slap the tag on Nugent or free agent safety Reggie Nelson. The tag cost for a safety is only $6.2 million, but hopefully by using the tag on Nugent means the team is confident they can re-sign Nelson, as the free agent market for safety is thin and the NFL Draft pool of safeties isn’t very deep either.

The Bengals now have until July 15 to reach a long-term deal with Nugent or else they can not negotiate again until the next NFL offseason. Mike Brown needs to lock him up sooner rather than later.
