To say expectations for the Bengals going into 2011 were low would be an understatement. After a nightmarish 2010 campaign that saw the team go from a division sweep and the playoffs to a 4-12 record, the team went into last season without Carson Palmer and Johnathan Joseph, and with a rookie quarterback and receiver, and a new offensive coordinator. The stage was set for a rebuilding year. Something funny happened along the way though. Cincinnati took advantage of a weak early schedule and wound up 9-7, and in the playoffs.
It’s obviously still a bit premature, since free agency hasn’t begun yet, and the draft is still almost two months away, but there is reason to be excited if you are a Bengals fan. Considering the Bengals haven’t fared well in seasons after making the playoffs, fans have a reason to worry, but with a few moves, the Bengals appear to be primed to change that trend this year.
