The NFL has issued a formal announcement that Saints Head Coach Sean Payton is suspended without pay for the 2012 NFL season, effective April 1. He’ll lose close to $7 million in salary as a result of the suspension. Outside of QB Drew Brees, the Saint’s most important member is Sean Payton, as the team has had its best period in franchise history under his watch. Since he’s come to the Saints in 2006, he’s led them to 4 playoff berths and the franchise’s only Super Bowl title. Here are the rest of the punishments that commissioner Roger Goodell has handed out:
The Saints will also forfeit their selections in the second round of the 2012 and 2013 NFL drafts.
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis will be suspended without pay for the first eight NFL regular season games of the 2012 season.
Saints Assistant Head Coach Joe Vitt is suspended without pay for the first six regular-season games of the 2012 season.
It is yet unknown what former Saints players will be suspended and for how long.
