Mike Mayock, Mel Kiper, Charley Casserly, and Todd McShay have all raved about the Bengals draft. Trent Dilfer did as well, but really, who cares what Trent Dilfer says? The assessment for their performance makes the reviews for the Godfather look like the reviews for Gigli.

The team had a tremendous nucleus in place going in and a good draft could position the team to be among the best for a long time and they hit it out of the park. It was the perfect combination of need and the best player available.

Cornerback – This was an issue because of Leon Hall being hurt. Dre Kirkpatrick can ease in due to the signings of Newman, Allen, and re-signing of Adam Jones. There is a lot of insurance on hand if Hall isn’t ready. The other corner selected, Shaun Prater will look to contribute right away on special teams. There was something else added that will help the secondary out.

That would be Devon Still and Brandon Thompson. The great thing about the defense last season was the depth and the rotation that was available. It will be even stronger this season with more physical talent and a healthy Carlos Dunlap. The more pressure the defensive line can put on the QB the easier job it will be for the secondary.
