November 24, 2011; Baltimore, MD, USA; Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs (55) gets introduced prior to the game against the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving at M

With news that Ravens All-Pro LB/DE Terrell Suggs tore his achilles tendon and will likely miss half of the 2012 NFL season, the race for the AFC North will be as wide open as its ever been. The Steelers, Bengals, and Ravens all made the playoffs last year, and each team has won the division at least once in the past 3 seasons. Suggs did state that there’s a chance he returns by October, though a return by mid-late November is the most likely scenario if he doesn’t have any setbacks in his rehab. Its worth noting that Bengals CB Leon Hall suffered the same injury last season in early November, and may begin the 2012 season on the PUP list, though his was a full tear, while Suggs’ was “reportedly” a partial tear.
