Pete Johnson guarantees RB Dan Herron will be Week 1 Starting RB

Former Bengals RB Pete Johnson is guaranteeing that sixth-round RB Dan Herron will be the team’s starting RB by Week 1 when the team opens the regular season against Baltimore:

I guarantee you he’ll be starting by the first game. He’s a great player if they give him the chance. He can run the ball. He runs low. And he can catch the ball out of the backfield and we didn’t do that enough at Ohio State. He’s got a great sense of his surroundings and that’s what a great running back needs.

Its hard to see a sixth-round rookie starting against the vaunted Ravens defense. Any lapse in pass protection by Herron will get QB Andy Dalton killed, and that is something that typically keeps rookie RBs from starting in week 1, but Johnson’s faith in Herron is an encouraging sign that Bengals did get a steal in Herron, who was projected as a 2nd-3rd round prospect before the tattoo scandal that caused him to miss the first 5 games of his senior campaign. He’ll have a tough time beating out reliable 3rd-down RB Brian Leonard for the fourth RB spot.

@SorianoJoe @fansided Very, but would mean he beat out 2 quality RBs in Ellis/Scott. He’ll have a tough time beating Leonard for 3rd RB spot

@UK_Fans @SorianoJoe @fansided Scott is not good. Law Firm, Boom, Leonard, Peerman (4 special teams only). Done.

@guttersnake @SorianoJoe @fansided Scotts done enough to earn roster spot. He nearly carried us to victory against Baltimore late in year
