It’s pretty amazing to see how far technology has come. Over the past few decades, we’ve seen the internet explode, leading to global communication and access to instant information. This sharing began with simple e-mail and has evolved through instant messaging, youtube, and the rise of social media. Millions of people use Facebook to keep track of, and speak to, friends and acquaintances they’ve made. If you’re curious to find out what your best friend from high school is doing these days, add him, and have instant access to where he’s working, who he’s in a relationship with, and who his friends are, as well as constant updates on what he happens to be doing or even thinking at that time.

Twitter has also given us unprecedented access to other people. However, in this case, it happens to often be with strangers who share the same likes or dislikes. Sports fan follow and are followed by other fans of the same team or teams. It gives people a chance to socialize with people they might not talk to otherwise. The other function of Twitter is that it allows fans to interact with the stars they admire, and those stars to maintain contact with their fans. The celebrity/fan relationship is almost a personal one through the use of Twitter, with a message from a person’s favorite player or actor just a few keystrokes away.
