Feb 5, 2012; Indianapolis, IN, USA; New York Giants running back

Look at the last 10 leading rushers for the Super Bowl champions:
Ahmad Bradshaw
Brandon Jackson
Pierre Thomas
Willie Parker (2)
Brandon Jacobs
Joseph Addai
Corey Dillon
Antoine Smith (2)

There is barely a Pro Bowler among this group. Let alone a Hall of Famer. All this data is good news for the Bengals. I hoped they would target a running back higher in the draft, but with a West Coast philosophy a running back is a luxury. Not a necessity. The key will be to control the ball with the passing game.

The only problem with the theory is they play in the AFC North. The long time recipe for success has been defense and a running game. Is it a coincidence that the Ravens went 6-0 in the division and they have the best back in the North? It is a risky proposition, but it’s something the team must figure out before they open the season in Baltimore.
